Thursday WOD – 031314

Nick

March Athlete of the Month, Nick!

Congratulations to our March Athlete of the Month, Nick Lizotte! Nick said he was honored to be chosen as Athlete of the Month, but his hard work and positive attitude made him an obvious choice. Nick is a shining example of the effectiveness of sticking with CrossFit. He has steadily made gains in every aspect of his fitness since starting with us, and the fitter he gets, the harder he works! I’ve been very excited to see him putting in alot of extra hours lately doing the additional programming.

How did you get involved in CrossFit? What was your first WOD/experience?
I first heard of CrossFit from my friend and fellow WCCFer, Sarah Harding. After months of listening to her praise WCCF, I decided to give it a try.

I can’t recall the WOD from the intro class, but I remember doing “Jackie” during a drop-in. I signed up immediately after peeling myself off of the floor.

“Jackie”
1000 meter row
50 Thrusters
30 pull-ups

When did you start coming to Whaling City CrossFit?
May 2013

Is this the first CrossFit you’ve worked out at / how long have you been CrossFitting for?
Yes, I’ve been here for a little less than 1 year.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?
I’d like to say I knew right after “Jackie” got through kicking my ass, but the truth is, it wasn’t until about five months later. Until I joined WCCF going to the gym always felt like a chore. I’d be into it for a month or two, then I would get “busy” and go back to running around the park once or twice a week. When I was five months in and still finding a way to fit a WOD into my busy schedule, I knew it was right for me.

What is your favorite aspect of CrossFit?
This was a tough question for me to answer, because there are so many great things about CrossFit, but have decided that the thing I like most is the community. It starts with the coaches, who have created such a positive atmosphere for people of all levels of ability to grow strong and become fit, both physically and mentally. Their attitude is contagious and spreads to every athlete, who can be heard cheering and shouting words of encouragement throughout every WOD. Our community is filled with the most amazing and inspiring people, but it is not the only one. CrossFit gyms are breeding communities like ours all across the world. Wherever life takes me, the first thing I’ll do when I get there, is find a CrossFit gym.

What are your short-term and long-term CrossFit goals?
My short-term goal is to master double unders. They are elusive and frustrating, but I will master them. Long term, I’d like to be able to complete the WOD’s as RX on a regular basis.

What is your biggest accomplishment?
I would have to say, getting my first muscle up has been my biggest accomplishment so far.

How has CrossFit changed your view on health and wellness?
CrossFit has taught me that there is a lot more to fitness than just physical strength. I have experienced first hand, the impact that improved nutrition, flexibility, coordination and endurance have on daily life.

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement?
My favorite movement is either handstand push-ups or snatches. I can’t decide. Thrusters are, without a doubt, my least favorite movement.

What do you a do for a profession outside of CrossFit?
I am a Web Developer/Computer Programmer. I own a company called Statewide Software & Systems.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
I enjoy playing hockey, hiking/backpacking, and kayaking.

Do you eat Paleo, Primal or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?
I don’t follow any specific diet. I eat fresh, whole foods as often as I can. I will eat almost anything that contains peanut butter. My favorite meal is lasagne.

Fun fact?
I absolutely love coffee! I recently started roasting the beans myself.
